About North Coast
The North Coast, Al-Sahel to Egyptians, is the country's summer holiday: the Mediterranean shore running west from Alexandria to Marsa Matrouh, through Sidi Abdel Rahman, El Alamein and Ras El Hekma. Most beaches are private, so a stay means a hotel or a rental, and hotels line the coast at El Alamein, Sidi Abdel Rahman and the bays further west. New Alamein, a new city on the sea, has a 14 km corniche open to the public, and big concert venues in Marina Alamein and New Alamein fill in summer. El Alamein War Cemetery, about 130 km west of Alexandria, remembers the battle of 1942. July and August are the season.
